Rockefeller Foundation Launches BPM Software to
Digitize Decision Making
Metastorm e-Work software in sync with Foundation's
global knowledge base
Severna Park, MD - The Rockefeller Foundation
has
deployed e-Work(tm), Metastorm's Business Process Management
(BPM) software. With the technology the Foundation is
moving away from paper-based processes and decision
making, toward a digital system that helps it focus
on its mission of granting nearly $200 million a year
to constituent programs.
One e-Work application lets any of the 250 staff in
seven worldwide offices complete a comprehensive leave
form, then use the Web and corporate intranet to automatically
update the human resources system to deduct time from
vacation and leave accounts following manager approval.
Options for rejecting the request or asking for clarification
are part of the interface.
"e-Work enhances our capability to rapidly respond
and resolve the hundreds of monthly requests for information
and decisions that originate internally and externally,"
said Fernando Mola-Davis, chief technology officer of
The Rockefeller Foundation. "The e-Work system
is in sync with our new Intranet and also with the stated
direction of being a knowledge-based, global foundation,"
he added.
Rockefeller intends to deploy one new e-Work application
per month for the next several months. Other processes
due for automation are requests for travel and for facility
usage.
As a BPM technology, e-Work automates the people-intensive
and paper-based processes that divert employees from
their higher-value activities. Many human resources
and finance department processes are suitable for this
type of technology, which offers a higher level of automation
by extending the traditional point-to-point connectivity
of packaged, departmental applications.
"e-Work is a practical tool that rises above
its inherent cost-savings benefit to where an organization
can better manage decision making," said Metastorm
CEO Avi Hoffer. "The Rockefeller Foundation is
our nation's premiere agent of change for disadvantaged
people the world-over and Metastorm is pleased that
we can be a small part of its high tech, high touch
environment."
